Domakine dobri gosti ti dojdoa

This is my first attempt at singing a Macedonian song in the Macedonian language (so if any Macedonian language experts hear anything wrong, it was not deliberate!). I really liked the sound of this one which is why I chose to put my own twist on it. Those with a working knowledge of Serbian can mostly figure out what the song is about.

Original Macedonian:

Domakjine, dobri gosti ti dojdoja,

Aj, dobar aber ti donesoja.

Stado ti se, domakjine, objagnilo,

Aj, polovina obliznilo.

Žena ti se, domakjine, porodila,

Aj, ti rodila maško dete.

Domakjine, denes se jade i pie,

Aj, denes se svadba pravi.

Ako spieš, domakjine razbudi se,

Ako pieš, domakjine razveseli se.

Here’s the corresponding English translation…

O hostess, good guests have arrived,

Hey, they brought you good news.

Your flock has lambed, o hostess,

Hey, half of it got twins.

The wife has given birth, o hostess,

Hey, she gave birth to a boy.

O hostess, today we will eat and drink,

Hey, today we are making a wedding.

If you are sleeping, o hostess, wake up,

If you are drinking, o hostess, cheer up
