Navali se Šar Planina

The Šar Mountains (Šar Planina) is a mountain range extending from southern Kosovo to northwestern North Macedonia. Rugged and barren, the mountains are among the highest in the Balkans, with 30 peaks higher than 2,500 m (8,202 ft).

In such a rugged terrain, we find that 3 shepherds have been trapped by the mountain with no reason given as to how that happened.

The first shepherd asks the mountain to let him go because he has a brother who will mourn him if he does not return. The second shepherd asks the mountain to let him go because he has a sister who will mourn him if he does not return. And finally the third shepherd asks the mountain to let him go because he has a mother who will mourn him if he does not return.

We never find out how this story ends…but this song is universally known throughout the Serbian communities in North America and is danced in a Macedonian style at most Serbian dances.
