Sedi Četnik Na Kamenu-Na sred gore Romanije
This medley consists of 2 songs that I fit together. It’s been awhile since I recorded a Četnik song or two.
The first song,Sedi Četnik is decidedly a sad song. The song captures the theme of courage and sacrifice of Serbian soldiers during the wars that have plagued the region for centuries. It talks about a soldier sitting on a rock with his rifle, reading a letter from his old mother. She’s asking him when will he come home? Her mother is preparing a wedding and her sons are not at home.
The son writes back with trembling hands that his brother has died in his arms. And he warns his mother that a battle is coming tonight and he may not survive this either. The son acknowledges that his heart feels empty now, but reminds his mother that this is how a Serb defends his own.
Na sred gore Romanije translates to:
In the middle of the mount Romanija,
the Četnik flag is waving
Well, let wave,
it was brought from Serbia
It was brought by Čika Draža,
and his Mountain Guard
It was carried in strong hands
by Major Dangić of the eighth Regiment
He handed it to Herzeg-Bosnia,
for them to be proud of it
Herzeg-Bosnia loved the flag,
and fought heroically under it
