Stara Me Majka Karala

This is another nod to the fabulous heritage we have here in North America of the old tamburasi who came here and entertained generations of Serbs, keeping Serbian music alive on this continent.

The song is basically about a mother scolding her daughter for falling in love with a “lola” - who is only interested in drinking, music and women” (wine, women and song?).

The song is followed by a short kolo “chaser” (thank you way back in time to the Trivanovich sisters, Cleveland, Ohio)!

Translated it becomes:

My old mother scolded me

Because I loved a lola

“I love you daughter

Know that lola will cheat on you”

Chorus

He is only looking for drinking, tamburaši, and women

Get away from him, you listen to me!

When he plays his tambura

His heart dances

Wine heals his sad heart,

The wandering drinker perishes young.
