Vidovdan

Vidovdan is about remembering the Battle of Kosovo 1389. The music and lyrics were written not that long ago by Milutin Popović Zahar in 1989.

I chose to provide the English translation at the beginning of the tune as an introduction to the musical/Serbian original song because it is important that the North American Serbian audience actually knows what the song is about. This song is tremendously popular and well known in the Diaspora. The key part of the song is the chorus which is repeated 3 times:

“Wherever I may go, I will always return.
Nobody can tear Kosovo away from my soul”

This song has instilled the battle of Kosovo, and indeed modern day Kosovo as an integral part of the Serbian soul…what was true in 1989, is still true today.
