Zajdi Zajdi
This is a song written by Macedonian singer-songwriter Aleksandar Sarievski (June 20, 1922 – December 19, 2002).
The song Zajdi, zajdi emerged from the folk song Černej, goro, černej, sestro. However, Sarievski created a new melody to match the lyrics he wrote.
This song was made famous by Toše Proeski (25 January 1981 – 16 October 2007) a Macedonian singer who included this song in his repertoire wherever he performed at concerts.
The lyrics translate to:
Set down, set down bright sun,
Set down, blackout
And you clear moonlight too
Run away, drown yourself
Sorrow - forest, sorrow - my sister,
Let us mourn together
You - for your leaves, forest
Me - for my youth.
Your leaves, forest - my sister,
Are going to come back to you
My youth, forest - my sister,
It's not coming back.
